hi guys! i've been interested in this hobby for years! and finally i got my own tank. i can't set it up for now as i'm moving out in a month's time but i'm reading up as much as possible! i got a small one as space is very limited, its a 40l tank. i'd like to know what fish i can put in it. I'd love corydoras and neon tetras, as they are my favourite. any other small fish (and maybe colourful) i could add?

Hi pconti,
Welcome to the forum and to the hobby. If carefully planned any size of aquarium can be an attraction. I invite you to come to the Show next weekend or the one after and we can show you a variety of fish you can put in your tank.
Research every species and the compatibility so you avoid drastic mistakes. The forum is here to help so ask as many questions as you like. No question is void or stupid if someone will learn from it.
Regards Trevor

I am sure you will set up the tank well. If it is something u have always wanted, your first tank will be great i am sure. The important thing is to find fish which go together and as colourful as possible, like the honey gouramis which we suggested. Also shoal fish look so lovely, like cardinals. Try to find some fish which occupy different areas of the tank. There are some tetras which prefer to stay at the bottom, there are some which prefer mid water, and there are fish which prefer the top of the water. So that way you will have fish swimming all over the tank and not just in the bottom.
If you need any names just drop us an email.
Frank

Good morning Frank! Hope all's well! I bought the airpump and airstone :) I need to buy the airtube only now and set up everything! I was thinking about the following fish. Couild you kindly give me your opinion: - 4 corys - 5 cardinals/ neon tetras - 2 honey/ dwarf gouramis - 5 platys (as these are mum's favourite so far)

Hi pconti, your list should be ok but with a bigger tank. The Cardinal tetras, corydoras and platies should be fine. But males dwarf gouramis are bit aggressive towards their own species and other colourful fish such as the platies. This happens when you keep them in confined spaces. In bigger aquaria you shouldn't have any problems.
