  • Re: Discus Tank

Yes Martin, high temperatures will somehow damage aquatic plants in the medium (more than a few days) to long-term: at least they will stop growing, at most they'll die. Most plants thrive at maximum temperatures of 26-27 deg C, other hardy ones like Anubias can thrive in warmer waters. Fanning the surface will often help you manage ...

  • Re: Visit to San Lucjan tower

Nice shots there, I feel ashamed I never visited such a lovely place. Kindly count me in if there's ever gonna be another group visit.  P.S. Well done Ray btw

  • Re: Discus Tank

Hi Mike, can you send us an update of your planted discus tank - has been quite some time since we last talked. I assume it has matured nicely since March. P.S. Had your Cobalt Blue discus recovered from the suspected Hole-in-the-Head?

  • Re: My planted aquaria

Martin, nice people like Ramon have inspired me to start and I cannot turn back now. :) I have been into the hobby for 18 months now and the planted tank challenge has given me a lot of satisfaction lately - you can change the look of your tank every now and then by moving some things around and exchanging some ...
  • Re: 200 LTR planted Discus Tank

Well done Edmund for breeding such gorgeous fish successfully....and I like your new planted discus setup. I am setting a similar sized one this week to save me from repeating some issues I've had with my discus in community but it will eventually house 4 to 5 adults only together with some algae eaters and tetras. I always read that to ...

  • Re: Recharging DI Resin

Yes a TDS metre is fundamental I would say and costs only abot EUR16 from ebay (range 0-2999). In Zurrieq tap water is crap with all sorts of contaminants. TDS reading proofs this with a reading of 1150! DI resin alone won't solve the problem and a combination of both RO and DI is necessary to sustain healthy fish and plant growth in the ...
  • Re: My discus have just fallen ill

Hi Edmund, thanks for your reply. If I have 9 young ones it's better than 6 for the simple reason that not all of them would grow to have the right shape and size. I will only choose the best 6 for my display tank once fully grown and give away the rest. At the same time I don't want to overcrowd the current tank in a way that ...

  • Re: My discus have just fallen ill

Hi Edmund, Are you the Zabbar guy I know who started breeding Discus last year? Welcome to the forum mate! All my 6 new 5cm Discus I just purchased are now quarantined in the 50l bare bottom tank I mentioned. I am feeding them 3 times a day mainly beefheartmix, frozen bloodworms/brine shrimp and flake food and performing 25% to 33% ...

  • Re: My discus have just fallen ill

My young discus died as well :( (but she was of a stunted size and did not have a place in the display tank) The middle one is healthy and back in the display tank now. I now have another 6 young ones (5cms) which I am growing in the small bare tank. My dream is to remove all the big fish from my planted (angelfish, clown ...

  • Re: My discus have just fallen ill

Hi All, Sorry for the delay in giving an update but i was away on business travel for 10 days and only returned last Thursday. Because of the travel I could not do much (left all as is) and the discus' condition worsened to the extent that I lost my favourite one last Saturday and was very close to losing the second one :( I felt guilty ...
