Well strictly speaking you can leave the heaters on they just don't switch on of course , this accident could have easily happened in winter when the heaters are on. In these cases there's nothing much one can do ...

I will have to find a bigger rock I'm not sure it will be really happy in 5cm's of water. Thanks for the info guys. Giann are they expensive I'm not willing to spend a lot and maybe find it dead within a week.

Kris first you told me 'mullet' it looks more like the a 'red mullet' altough they have the same name they are hardly related
