normally algae eater feast on algae. Just in case what is the temperature of the tank you are keeping them in? I am saying this because such fish do not do their "work" if the water is too cold. They are better off in temperatures are more than 23 degrees celsius The other alternative may be to induce them to eat on some lettuce or ...

 Lovely fish, I totally agree with Utaka about mixing these cichlids, sometimes it would be a better idea not to mix and match such specimens especially for the beginners who simply look for the coloration of the fish (which is pretty impressive)
