thanks for your advise Alan. I will keep this in mind and although I live in a ground floor maisonette, the water is already some 29 deg.

Martin, to solve the "heat" problem, you need a chiller or else small aquarium fans. I use both a chiller & the fans for my house tanks & both work fine for me. The 350L tank is on with a chiller 24/7 & the 140L tank has 2 aquarium fans. I also top up the water every other day, due to evaporation.

hi when you  say 2 aquaruim fans, are they some kind of special fans. or just an ordinary fan which you put on top the tank. and do you keep your tanks uncovered?

The fans I have are for aquarium use & they are 10 x 15cm, with a clip on, so you can clip it on the glass, on one side of the tank. I bought them from overseas, but I think that LFS have for sale. Yes, I keep the top open & top up the tank every other day, as the water evaporates really fast.

    Re: Discus Tank

I don't have any option, or use the chiller & fans or elso, there will be no fish in my house, as the heat is well over 35 Deg.Cel. The fans are 2 Watts each & the chiller is 200 Watts.

    Re: Discus Tank

My discus were obviously ok during the hot summer months although some of them remained small and at the moment I do not have a spare tank.

    Re: Discus Tank

Yes I did bought them locally from 2 different breeders. But due to the space, about 3 to 4 of them grew very nicely whilst the rest remained small.

    Re: Discus Tank

    hi there

I am interested in trying to raise some discus fry in an artificial manner. I have been doing some background work and research on the internet regarding artificial raising of discus fry. I guess a lot of people say it cannot be done. But in fact it is possible and i have seen some different methods. IN fact some people not to loose fry prefer this method. I have spoken to one of the members here and out of a brood of about 30 two survived. So it has been done here in Malta too.

Unfortunately i do not have any breeding pairs of Discus so i cannot try it out. I wondered if any of the members here on this site, have any breeding pair of discus, or to that effect breeding pairs of discus, and they do not keep the fry or the eggs due to lack of time . Or maybe the eggs get eaten every time.
If anyone has such breeding pairs and maybe would like to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. It is better than letting the fish die. I know it is not an easy process but i have the time and the will to try it out. I would ofcourse gladly share all my knowledge with others. I have bred angels in the past and always artificially raised them,> the process is similar but the first few days are more crucial.

So come on guys and dolls  if anyone out there has  breeding pairs which are just eating their eggs, get in touch.
really hope to get some replies and also tips

     regards

     Frank
