the tank is going to be 4 foot x 18 in x 15 in. .. and btw when I mentioned those fish I did not mean that I am going to stock all of them but I am still searching for those who are more compatable with each other.

I can't tell you the name but they are very nice I like them.  I have noticed that most cichlids have that black spot in the middle does anybody know if it's just aesthetic or maybe it has a particular function (for instance to scare larger predators or something like that)

Yes Rob they could be cichlasoma or Aquidens Portalegrense .... aka black acara or red port acara.  The thing is that when you try to check on the net and see some pictures of the fish, they all look so different than from you have in your tank. Even the colour variation varies from one site to the other although they are referring to the same species of fish...... The internet sometimes gets more confusing then solving the problem ehhhhhh ????

Well I just have to keep looking....... btw they are part of my central american set up.

    Re: Central Americans

The what maybe called " Port Acara " laid eggs a few days ago. They laid on a piee of clay that I prepared for them. The mother was always attending to them and fighting off any intruders. About 3 days after laying the eggs I noticed that she was more and more abondoning them and the other inhabitants started nipping on them. That is when I decided to remove the clay and try to hatch them artificially. They are now in a plastic tub with an airstone close to them. I will keep you updated...... hope they hatch .....!!!!!!!!
