Edmond, the rainbow cichlid, ( Herotilapia Multispinosa ) are prolific breeders and if they have the right surroundings and environment they will breed and breed and breed. The colours of the parents whilst in breeding are just wonderful. I know i had mine with fry. Yes it could be that both females laid eggs at the sane time. Did you purchase 3 females and 1 male or 2 females and 2 males ??. I normally siphon the fry just after they hatch but still as wrigglers. It would be very difficult to try to siphon/net them is they are free swimmers, specially if you have plenty of decor in your tank. They are very good parents by the way too.

Very interesting pictures, Martin. It's always nice to see the fry with their parents. Big Smile

Any news with your fry, Edmond?.

Sometimes taking nature takes its course is a disastrous thing to do. I left the fry of the Cuban Cichlid with their parents for a couple of days more as I was enjoying the site of so many fry being guarded by their parents that one fine day the parents ate all the fry. Now they were preparing for a second batch but the male ended up killing his mate. Shame on me.

Well done Edmond. Make frequent water changes and good food and you will see the fry growing by the day. If you have a lot of fry you must also separate them in order to have more swimming spaces. Keep us updated on this matter as these breeding projects are really interested.

Those Cuban cichlids are really nice, I never saw them locally.

Martin is it usual to have different patterns on both sexes?

The pattern changes very rapidly Giann depending on the condition of the water and the fish themselves. Sometimes it changes in a couple of minutes for exampple when they are feeding. The most drastic change obviuosly is whilst courting. The female changes patern and colouration when she is taking care of her brood. Yes John they are nice but veeeeerryyyyyyyyyyy aggressive. The last time they spawned, the male nearly killed the female as he gave her a very bad battering. Eventually they ate the brood.

Very nice oscar Ivan. Nice shape and colouration. Be careful however from sharp object like stone and branches as oscars sometimes accidentally bruise  themselves against such objects. Take care of water quality too. Ivan, what are those marking on the back and forehead of the fish ???  Be very alert as oscars are quite liable to the hole-in-the-head disease. Monitor well. As regards the EBJD John, from the 2 that I had originally bought, 1 of them died. The one left however is getting bigger and looks great. I tried pairing him with a normal JD but the female just battered him nearly to death. Quite amazingly he is house with a group of tetras and he never bothers them at all.
