    Re: Shrimps.

Lol that was one good way of thinking positive out of a bad situation Surprise

I'm planning to have small peacfull fish so i don't think that i might have any problems with these guys when the aquarium will be well planted.

I was going to begin with the amano shrimps, since they're bigger there will be less chances of being eaten by some other fish.

I don't think they enjoyed the cocktail.  They filed a complaint that they found some worms in the tomato. :P

I had 20 amano and 20 cherry.  Amano were never touched and they even sometimes take the wafers away from the loaches.  Oh well a lesson learnt eh.  Though I do sometimes feel sorry and guilty for the cherry shrimps.  But I'm like that.

    Re: Shrimps.

lol they must have been clever enough to realise the a tomato shouldn't be that small Stick out tongue

Anyway i've read a lot about amano shrimps and they seem to be very very different from other shrimps. Other shrimps are more quiet and they suffer from various aggressions from other fish but amano shrimps are quiet agressive shrimps i guess from the information i read about them... Thats why i was going to add some amano since they have a bigger chance to stay alive. Big Smile

*One little note is that shrimps are very hard to find in malta (not talking about cherry, amano or tiger shrimp) because there are various types of shrimps if you search about them and very nice shrimps too, but very little hobbyists grow these kind of creatures. I assume that they're pretty interesting.

    Re: Shrimps.

For further ideas on what i'm talking about here is a list of some shrimps which i've never heard about, maybe some of you did but i don't think that you've heard about all of these:

    Singapore Wood Shrimp
    Malaysian Rainbow Shrimp
    Brazilian Yellow-Belly Grass Shrimp
    Rudolph Red-Nosed Shrimp
    Bumble Bee Shrimp
    White Spotted Pearl Shrimp
    Dwarf Blackberry Algae Eating Shrimp
Dwarf Emerald Green Deora Algae Eating Shrimp
    Orange Halo Shrimp
    Black Forest Shrimp

Here is the link from which i got this list of shrimps and you have a little profile about them: http://www.azgardens.com/shrimpfactory.php

Since you seem to be getting quite interested in shrimps I would suggest that you keep your aquarium as lightly planted as possible with no clumps and as little fish as possible.  Most of the shrimps you mentioned are quite small and if they feel threatened you might never get to see them as they are quite adept at hiding.  Sometimes the only clue I have that my shrimps still exist is when I see a few empty shells floating around showing me that at least some have changed their shell.

    Re: Shrimps.

That is one thing that i didn't actually think about, but i'm planning to make very peacfull fish such as guppies, swordtails, white cloud minnows, cardinal tetras, dwarf gouramis, peppered corydoras and maybe some rummynose tetras thats all so they're all peacfull fish.

I've got a very heavily planted aquarium and thought that way too, in fact I bought 20 at one time.  But my angel fish (a pair) hunted every last one of them in a night.  At least I can say that I have a very healthy and well-fed pair of angelfish.

From experience I know that a fully grown Angel can swallow a Rummynose tetra, let alone Cherry Shrimps. Confused

Do the tiger shrimps survive indoor in coldwater?

    Re: Shrimps.

I keep Cherry Shrimps in unheated tanks all year round, but you must be sure that the temperature don't go too low in winter & too high in Summer. From 18-30 Deg. they'll be fine & I think that Tiger Shrimps need the same.
