Are those Amano shrimps? I think they need brackish water for the eggs to hatch. Goodluck Charl.

Great pictures once again. Those Amano look quite familiar Stick out tongue & i'm sure that you have a better chance to breed them, than i did.

Is the Tiger shrimp still holding the eggs?.

Great pictures Chal, those Amano shrimps looks far more gourges than when I've sow them with bare eyes!

The tiger shrimps hatched, I need a jewelers magnifying lens to see them and two other females carrying eggs

Very good Charles. Smile Yes, i'm sure that they're quite small & difficult to see.

I think that the best way to see them, is when they're on the front glass of the tank.

    Re: Shrimps.

Regarding tiger shrimps... Are they a bit bigger than cherry srhimps for example like the size of an amano shrimp or they're the same size of a cherry shrimp ? Because i'm interested in getting some shrimps i would like to know more about them. And are tiger shrimps common from a LFS because i haven't seen any yet. Just cherry shrimps and amano shrimps which i'm very interested in getting soon. I just need to buy some java moss first. Then i'll try these cute little creatures. Btw one last thing, is it possible that you have cross breeding between shrimps ?

Tiger & Cherry Shrimps are of the same size (smaller than Amano Shrimps) & both can be found at LFS or locally bred. It can be possible, that Malta Aquarist Society members have them & bred them. I know that Charles bred both species but now he's more interested in Line breeding Guppy's. Big Smile

Yes, they can cross breed & I suggest, that you keep them in separate tanks.

    Re: Shrimps.

That is one reply that i didn't expect. Although i thought that they can cross breed, i wasn't sure so i was thinking of keeping them in the same tank.

So do you think that it will make send to breed and grow a species of shrimps in a tank and when they grow up in put them in my community tank ? Because that was my actual idea. Obviously i wait for them to grow to full size, and in a mature planted tank like a forest where there will be several places to hide and only small fish like tetras, guppies etc... (I don't think that corydoras will eat them ey ?)

Which type of shrimps will be ideal to begin with ? I assume that the cherry shrimps are the easiest ey ?

They can easily crossbreed & so you need to keep them in different tanks. They are also slow growers, so don't expect them to be fully grown in a few weeks. Stick out tongue I would start off with 1 species & then when they'll breed & you'll raise the fry, you can move on to another species...... I think that it will be more interesting this way.

Any species of fish will eat tiny shrimp hatchlings, while with fully grown shrimps, it will be a different thing, but still they'll be seen as food by most fish.

Cherries are quite easy & apart from Amano (these need sea water to breed), they're the only species I've kept & bred.

I've got a very heavily planted aquarium and thought that way too, in fact I bought 20 at one time.  But my angel fish (a pair) hunted every last one of them in a night.  At least I can say that I have a very healthy and well-fed pair of angelfish.

Planted aquaria m'hawx ahjar minnhom (biex issaffar!!! :P)
