But it will be interesting since it will be challenging to breed these type of fish and then suceed, what do you think martin ?

My problem is i don't have space where to keep more and more tanks, and i'm trying to avoid heaters...

I hate electricity bills Angry I want to do more tanks Surprise

A few months ago I had a bad experience with my male Geophagus. Due to the problem I had with the well I nearly lost him. After long medication and salt baths he has gained his strenght and regained his original colours and style. He also started cleaning up some gravel, stones and plastic plants. I want to ask this question maybe someone had an experience such as the one I am having.

With this particular male, there is a fairly large female and two other smaller females. To my surprise, the courting is being done with one of the smaller females and not with the elder one. Ok ok ok no funny ideas guys........ any remarks from you regarding this behaviour would be appreciated.

To be honest I cannot help you much with your problem, as I only have a "funny idea" on my mind, Stick out tongue but I'm very glad that you took care & saved him, after the water problem that you had. That's one of the differences between a fishkeeper & another. Well done Martin. Yes

At first the two fish were cleaning then area and in fact no gravel or plastic plant stood in their way. It seems that now they sort of lost interest in the site. It coulb be that they laid eggs and ate them instantly in my absence. Well I just have to wait and see the next time.

Update..... It seems that at the end he did not like the younger females  !!!!! He again paired up with his old timer lady and this time they did it properly. They laid eggs on the 15th January. They both guarded them but today I saw the male nipping and could have been eating the eggs. As 48 hours has now passed form the actual spawning, I decided to remove the eggs and hatch them artificially. They are not hatched yet but you can see the eyes of the fry with the naked eye. So by the 18th evening they should be wrigling on the pot....... hope so at least.

Finger crossed everything goes well with the hatching now so we will have alot of tiny Brasilensis !!!!!!!

Thanks alot for sharing these pictures, Martin. Yes

Most of the eggs look fertile & only very few look fungused. Hopefully in a few days time, you'll be able to update this thread with some wriggling fry pictures. Wink

noooo Giann. If the couple are healthy and have the right environment it is not difficult to breed them. I will post some pics of the fry soon.
