Pearl cichlid - Geophagus Brasillensis :p

    Hello guys,

About 2 months ago I acquired 3 locally bred Pearl cichlids at about 4 cm. They grew well but are still very small altough their colors are very striking. Today I noticed this .. the pictures will speak for themsleves..

     Hope they are pairing :)

Has anyone experienced breeding with G.Brasilensis. ???  I have a fairly large male with a smaller female housed in a 3 foot tank. The male is continously harressing the female and I had to provide for her several hiding places. She is also afraid to eat because of him. Any remarks and experiences are highly appreciated.

I don't think he will get her much in the mood if he keeps treating her the way he does

What can I say !!!! So seperate them & just leave them together for breeding purposes only. Tongue Tied

Yes I think that's a good idea I should separate them , condition them and then re unite.  But I think they are not sexually mature anyway

Instead of separating them Ted, I constructed by means of rocks and flower pots, several hiding places for the female. Due to the fact that the male is much larger then the female, she can escape his harresment in " martin build caves and hideouts !!!!!! " , without him getting to her. Now finger crossed that she will come out when it is time and that he will welcome her .

after i did separate them, the female started feeding more and more and got fater and fater. One morning I noticed that her breeeding tube was evidently that she was about to lay eggs. So I removed the separator and the male started again chasing her. After a few minutes I noticed that she had already laid eggs before I introduced the male. Hard luck. The male ate all the eggs. They are now separated again. Hope the other time I will remover the divider in time !!!!!!!

You can still see the eggs on the pot.
