    Re: Killifish for everyone

    Hi,

I am pleased to report the results of  the fish that I sent to the BKA show the last weekend.

The maximum no.of points is 9. Fish or pairs that arrived in bad condition were withdrawn.

Tank No.           Species                                 No.of points                      Place.

    101        Aphanius dispar Richardsoni                   9                                  1st.

102       Aphanius dispar Richardsoni               Withdrawn                         ------

    402       Notho.eggersi red                                    9                                   1st.

    403      Notho.guentheri red   ( male only )             7                                   ---

    404     Notho.guentheri blue                                 8                                    2nd.

    805     Aphy.australe gold                                     7                                  ----

    806     Aphy.australe gold                                    6                                    ---

    807    Aphy,australe gold                               Withdrawn                           ----

As soon as I receive the certificates  and the ribbons, I will post a photo of them.

I am very pleased with the above results when considering that the fish I sent, spent over 4 days in the transit box and had very little time to recover before the judging.

I think that it is time for some of our members to take the plunge and start to take part in international shows. These are held all over Europe at this time of the year and these are mostly for specialised breeders and not only for killifish.

    Charles.

    Thanks Mr. President,

You are the first one to congratulate me on our site. I appreciate this very much.

Hope that more of our members will try their hands at these easy to keep and breed species.

Yes Brandon, unluckily the best dispar male that I sent, arrived dead. But still I am very happy with the results.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Frank.

I wish to show some of my killifish at the local show but I believe that if anyone is to exhibit fish at the show, he must go and help in the preperations for the show. At the moment, I cannot go and give a helping hand,. I have too much work to do at home. Also right now, I have a big pain in my back and driving a car means a big effort let alone lifting heavy objects and going up and down stairs.

There are other younger members who have some nice killies too and it would be nice for them to compete with each other. Hope that the show will be a big success  for all.

    Charles.

I would like to join my friends in congratulating you Charles for your success. This is the result of hard work, patience and dedication. I too am a breeder and knows what it entails to breed and grow fry of certain species. But as you have shown us here, the result is rewording and the satisfaction is unlimited. Prosit once again and keep up the good work. Yes I agreed with you and hope to see some nice killies specimens in this years' show.

    Hi Martin,

Today I received the awards from the BKA. I have been trying to post a photo for a very long time but each time that I click on post, I get an oops, there was a mistake.

     hi Charles

Hope you are now better. I am sorry, would have loved to help you but am still without a car. At the moment i am looking at the killifih eggs i have hatched. They are in a small tank next to my bed. And they are so lively always swimming around. I think though i have a new breed. miniture kilifish. I do not think they will grow anymore, though the males have developed beautiful colours. They are always showing off to each other and also of course sometimes fighting. I did not know they awere such lively fish. I guess it is because they are always together.

Pity you are not taking part,  hopefully next year we will see you competing too.

    " mce_src="">Hi Frank,

Thanks for your sincere offer of help. Now I am much better but it seems that old age is having its effect on me.

The reason that you are having miniture killifish is that when they were young, you did not give them enough good food (newly hatched brineshrimps). But if you breed off them and feed their young on a good diet, most of the young will grow to a descent size.

Attached is a photo of the prizes that I won from the BKA show this year. These are 2 oil paintings on canvas by an American artist. These were the award for 1st.prizes, two 1st medals and one 2nd medal plus 3 certificates.

Hope that you like them and wish all the local participants at this year`s show a good time to all.

    Charles.
