    Some great looking Angels

This is one of Ken Kennedy's Angels from the Phillipines. He has bred this from  the recently proven Platinum Gene (Ken did most of the crosses to prove it first|) and crossed Platinum blue with dark and Ghost. If you guys haven't seen it yet, it gives you an idea where some Angelfish genetics are heading. The platinum looks like it has potential for many interesting crosses and Ken has other spectacular fish in his Platinum Blue line.

We hope to be importing some similar crosses in the black line from Ken next month or early summer, once he has them up to size. It is a spectacular fish and hope we get some with similar finnage and color

Here is one of Debs Black Blushers

Another of Kens fish below - Who would have guessed that this had a zebra gene? More of his Angelfsih breeding efforts can be seen on TWAF, along with many other breeders

Here is a A beautiful looking Silver Ghost surrounded by some of his young. His fin color contrast and patterning are breathtaking when fully splayed

Would anyone like to comment on the genetics of these two below, They are a breeding pair. The parents of the male on the right, were imported from the Czech republic by a friend of ours. We still have the parents, their bodies are as big as the palm of your hand. The female on the left has had her dorsal fin beaten up by the male, in his efforts to get her to lay eggs. Her parents are the ones that produce 22 different types of black and blushing expression amongst others

Very nice Angels!! I like the Silver Ghost most! That red eye really goes with the fins' pattern!

I thought blushin angels are those that had visible gill through their operculum, but I think I'm wrong.....

Hello Jonathon, you are correct about the blushing in most cases.

However some only express the red cheek coloring as juveniles. Some Gold Marble Blushing (Koi or Sun Burst  Angels) do not show the red cheeks as adults, we have some.

Black Blushers do not express it either because the black skin pigmentation hides it, but genetically they still have the blushing gene, same for blue blushers.

The blushing or stripeless gene  as it is known here, makes interesting study for its ability to modify the looks of different fish in different ways, especially when cross bred in single and double dose of the stripeless.

I prefer natural looking Angels, i.e. striped black & white, so from the pictures shown above, i like the Silver Ghost most.

Hi Cory, I have pondered your post for a few days about natural looking Angels. and i have to wonder if such a thing is possible for those of us who keep tank bred Angels?

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder - no doubt, but I do wonder if the day of the natural looking Angel is gone? Good looking silvers will always be good looking, but the fish keeping public want different color and variety all the time.

Should we hang onto the past, or look forward to where Angelfish breeding is going (if anyone knows?)

I just hope that the day of the natural looking Angel, never goes "out of fashion" & last week i bought 6 juvenile striped Angels & hope to breed some of them next year.  I know that fish keepers are always looking for different varieties & sometimes it's a pity to loose the natural looking fish & go commercial.

I am also setting up my 4 feet high tank with angels ..

but I don't know which verieties to add, maybe the jet black ones or the natural form?

    can I house them together?

You have to decide what you want to keep & which you prefer. I prefer the natural looking ones & yes, Angels are quite compatable, if you add them together & of the same size, but as you might know, when they pair off, it's another thing & then the chasing starts...... Indifferent

    Re: Some great looking Angels

There are various variants of angels you might keep; these include wild type, black, gold marbles, kois and so on. Although they are variants of the same species these will differ in temperament and ease of keeping/breeding. Variants can be kept together and will also breed. In my opinion I would opt for black angels as they are far more majestic than the rest, but that's just a personal opinion. You could also opt for two trios.

What I would like to add is that the correct nomenclature for the "natural looking" angels is Silver or wild-type.

Try to find some "jet" black once with the "lacy" like tail & fins. I used to have them 7 years ago & they where really beautiful.

Thanks for your suggestion but I don't like those with very fancy and lacy finned, I will try to find those with lyre-tail fins only. Thankyou
