My tanks have direct sunlight only from 4pm onwards.
The tank is still still full of hair algae, but I need it for the Aphanius mento to breed in this Spring.
I also use it to feed my crabs, crayfish and shrimps.
B.Sammut, these killies aren't difficult to breed. They will lay eggs in spawning mops or in my case in hair algae. These will hatch after 14 days according to the temperature, but thats the average hatching time. When I had them in my fishroom I used to pick the eggs from the spawning mops. But as I don't have time and they are kept outdoors, I leave everything natural. You'll know that they're breeding by the black colour of the male. In the morning you will see the male in full costume chasing the females in the hair algae. Then after a few weeks you can notice the small fry amongst the floating hair algae. I only feed crushed flakes, because in their you'll find mosquito larvae, bloodworms and for sure with all that algae tiny micro organisms.
