    Bolivian ram - Microgeophagus altispinosus

This time my Bolivian rams are trying to spawn the main tank with uaru, firemouths and t-bars...

What is the best tank size to put them so that they can spawn undisturbed?

Rams are quite petit, so you don't need a big tank. I think that a 50/60 litre tank would be fine for them, but i would also add some plants, as they like some shelter.

    Thanks for the response Jason!

Now I am going to let them care for their eggs in the community and maybe they will hatch some, and then i will fil their new tank with water from the community. I will put some Java Fern, Elodeo Densa, a coconut shell and some pebbles. A sponge filter as filtration and a heater.

Hope they will hatch & try to leave a small dim light at night, as it's done with Angels.

Try to find some rounded rocks, as they like to lat their eggs on flat rounded surfaces (at least that's what i read, somewhere).

BTW, do you want a few shoots of Echinodorus tenellus?. They are runner plants & stay quite low. If you want, i will send some over on Sunday.

Robert good luck for your breeding , I have a pair of these rams but till now no fry Crying  From my experience it's very important to provide some shelter for these guys , they are quite sensitive and can get very shy. To say the truth I never conditioned them or anything I don't have a spare tank.

Keep us updated !! Big Smile

    Keep it cichlid !!

    Thanks guys for your response!

The female is still on the eggs with the male surrounding her and protecting his batch. Their tankmates haven't payed attention to the eggs till now. The eggs are almost invisibile, I think that's why nobody is trying to devour them!

Im sorry but I haven't got some photos, because they are at the back of the tank and my fossilized camera can't zoom that far! Tongue Tied

Don't worry about the pictures & i think it's better not to bother them much.

Hope you'll see a couple of little ones & the others leave them alone.

YesYesterday the two day old batch was removed from the tank as Charlie Grima suggested, the mom was so frustrated she was even chasing her mate away. I'M SO SORRY FOR HER!

I have put the eggs in a one foot tank with the same water and today half of them hatched! sadly the others have fungused. I'm so happy, I can't wait till they get free swimming!

Well Done. Big Smile I'm sure you're capable of raising them & hope to see some pictures, as they grow up.
