    Breeding crayfish

About two months ago I bought a pair of crayfish. I don't know what species they are yet, because I didn't have much time to search on the net. Two weeks later I noticed the female carrying eggs ( can be seen in the photo as yellowish balls under her tail). Then I put her on her own in a small aquarium with a moss ball and some java moss and fern. I also put a small pot for shelter.

    Nice Crayfish, Jonathan. Wink

Yes, the eggs are quite visible under the tail & they look quite big.

    How big is the Crayfish?.

It's about 7cm, not more. I think it grows bigger then that, but i will confirm when I find something about it. I will soon post photos of the eggs.

Thanks alot for the well detailed pictures, Jonathan.

Hopefully we'll be able to see some "fry" pictures, when the time is right. Wink

Do you keep other species of Crayfish, or you're only on one species?.

At the moment I have Cherax sp.zebra, cherax sp. Cherax sp.blue, cherax quad.,  Procambarus clarkii and  a dwarf species  which name I can't remember at the moment. I have about 14 of them at the moment and I will post photos later.

Wow , well done John for the pictures , very good macro pics.  is it difficult to raise their fry ?

Don't think so as they are scavengers. I don't yet know if they tolerate room temperatures as I'm not using any heater for them. But as you can see it's not affecting the fry from developing.

    Re: Breeding crayfish

Hi guys, this morning when  looked into the aquarium, I saw the smallest crayfish I've ever seen. The eggs hatched at last and some of them are still clinked to their mother. Other 5 are already roaming over the moss balls. I will post photos of them later this week!
