But I will try to find a neater way of insulating the room then jablo. And if the mats go under the tiles it would be better too, always if possible.

    Re: New fishroom

As you might know once I did a studio at home which cost me quite a fortune. It is sound proof. You probably saying what does sound has to do with temperature. I think they are quite the same as a principle to insulate. At this point its better to invest a bit and be satisfied tomorrow. You still can work with the things you gain(acquire). The best way to insulate a room is to isolate it. For example if you fix the walls with jablo and then do another wall made of gypsum, that would be great. That will take a bit of space from inside the room but, And maybe you would not be able to fit the aquariums you planned.

I liked the idea that you do the jablo under the tiles. that would make a difference. The wall stone and torba are conductors and should be kept in mind but the worst enemy is the air flow. If you close the room air tight you should be able to keep high temperatures with a very little power. But that as you might already saying comes with a problem. that of oxygen deficiency. So there must be some sort of ventilation for the fish and for your sake Big SmileThe fact that you built that wall of bricks and not solid stone, its very positive. Are the walls of bricks too? Most probably you are saying I m exaggerating. I say its according to what temperature you wish in the room? Are you satisfied with the present temperature? How much higher is the ideal for you? And you should consider the summer too.

But as I said before the more isolated and insulated the room the more you can change the temperature in the room with less power.

For example I heat my studio with only the PC in the winter, but to say the truth I have to open the window every now and then. Hope I be of help.

HI jon. I have a better idea, and it will work out cheaper. Why not keep a couple of goats or sheep down there. I am sure they would heat the room up. After all that was what people used to do in the old days to keep warm. Another advantage would be that each time we have the monthly meeting you can bring us fresh gbejniet and sell them. I  for one would buy them for sure.

    cheers

Giann, water of 15 deg in your fish room is obviously too low. You will have to heat the room anyway. Someone mentioned the isoaltion sheets. At work we do have these isolation sheets which are used on yachts in order to isolate engine sound to the rest of the vessel. They are a metre X metre and 25mm thick. They are self adhesive but to make all the room with such sheets will cost you a fortune.... Well if the goat idea does not please you just let me know and I will give you a quote on the isolation sheets !!!!!!

    Re: New fishroom

I was going to check the prices of PVC wall panelling. These will not be mounted directly to the walls but will have space between the wall and PVC panels. Then I'll put jablo behind them or else leave it empty, since air is an insulator.

These panels are easy to clean and also can drill holes in them quite easily. But I will need to check the price first.

    Re: New fishroom

in a couple of weeks time I am going to change the steel shelving I have on the right hand side of my fish room with aluminium shelving. It will be a very hard day's work but it has to be done because if the stands continue to rust so rapidly I will surely be in trouble. I'll keep you updated guys.
