    victoria cichlids

hello there, here are some of my victoria juwels:

    haplochromis sp kenya gold.

    haplochromis sp flameback

pundamilia nyererei red head population zue island

pundamilia nyererei red flank (tsano rocks)

    psytochormis hippo point salmon

CAUTION: all victoria cichlids are very suseptible to hybridisation - please mix these species together only with great caution - example hippo point with flameback - ok - looking at morphology and body patterns helps avoiding mixing too similar species.

Lovely fish, I totally agree with Utaka about mixing these cichlids, sometimes it would be a better idea not to mix and match such specimens especially for the beginners who simply look for the coloration of the fish (which is pretty impressive)

    yepp... all mouthbrooders.

currently there is a victoria revolution going on in france/belgium/germany - a lot of new species are being introduced to the hobby thanks to a number of universities (hull/leiden/leuven) who are concerned about the survival of these species which are in serious risk of extinction - probably i have some species at home already extinct in the wild!

maybe in 50 years time - when lake victoria can be cleaned from all the nile perch and pollution and hyachints  we might be able to reintroduce some species from aquarium strains - but that is just a long term dream...
