Is ink used as a camoflouge to protect the eggs?

    reggae:
Also, the newly hatched paralarvae of the octopus have a pelagic stage and are very small, whilst those of the cuttlefish are demersal and considerably large.
    - Could you please explain this a bit more what's pelagic and demersal ?

Could be but quite unlikely. It is known that the cuttlefish ink contains some form of repellant  which irritates predators such as the Moray eel. The same ink on the eggs may give them the same protection.

Pelagic = Organisms that spend most of their life swimming or drifting in the water column with little contact with or dependency on the bottom.

Demersal = Organisms that is essentially bottom living but may feed and swim in the water column

Benthic = Organisms that live on the seabed

The first brood are now 52 days old (10 juveniles) and they were transfered to two glass aquaria in the trials room for growing on, while another batch of eggs started to hatch in the bucket on their way to the Aquaria room this morning...

I don't know how to upload images on this site, but hope to upload a new video on youtube soon.
