Have you though of some kind of ventilation for the hot summer months Giann ????  I mean besides the extractor, do you have an outlet of fresh air somewhere in the room ???

No I don't have any outlet since the garage is a basement one. The temperature of the water in the room is 21 deg, while in the aquaria I have at home it rises to 28 deg, so I shouldn't have a problem in Summer. But I will be taking readings to see the difference. Hope I answered your question Martin.

Yes Giann I agree. Normally in the basements the air keeps cooler in summer and not so cold in winter. But it is always advisable to keep track of the temperatures just in case. Keep us updated Giann.

HI i have not read much of this thread, though want to read it carefully as I am sure there are good tips. God willing next year i will start on my own fish room, and i hope that many of these tips will come in useful. The room i intend to use is street level and sees the morning sun. I intend to use some sort of insulation, but am wondering if it will get too warm in summer. It has a window leading to the outside, so i was wondering if  i will have to see if i will have to do some  sort of ventilation.

Frank depending on how much hours of sun the aquariums will face or else you will be facing the algae problem.

Time for planning the shelvings... I'm going to begin from the left hand side where the growing tank will be. These will be used mainly for growing my breeding stock... Here's how its going to look. I'm going to use aluminium. On the right hand side you can see the side view.

Very interesting Jon. :) Just remember to leave ample space between a shelf & another, so you can easily remove water, filters & catch fish. Also remember to have enough height from the bottom shelf, so you'll have a good water flow, when doing the water changes. ;)
