Usually I put a handful of Irish peat moss in women's stockings and put it in a box filter or leave it in the aquarium. But only when I have small tanks for breeding.

What do you need exactly? Is it a big aquarium you're talking of?

Thanks jtheuma. Yes I want it to decrease the PH in some of my small tanks like 30cm x 30cm x 30cm. Should I process the peat before putting it in the tanks?

    Thanks Brandon.

I just boil it before. If you 're using a box filter you can insert the stocking with peat in it, or a better idea is to have another one with peat only, apart from the one with ceramic cylinders et..

Be careful with water chemistry Brandon. If the water you are using is rated as " hard " water, you have to soften the water first ( with resin ) prior to lowering the ph or else the ph will bounce upwards back again. Therefore it is advisable also to check the hardness of your water prior to try to lower your ph. Water is classified as hard when in the region of 8 to 12 dGH. The higher in the table the more hard water and the lower in table the softer the water.

Thanks Jtheuma. Martin I only check the PH and it is 8 and I want it to decrease it to 5. I want to decrease it for only 1 small breeding tank of 30cmx30cmx30cm.

    Thanks Brandon.

ph 5 is very low. I wonder which species you are going to breed in this level of ph as only few can tolerate such acid water. Can you check hardness Brandon.
