    New Guppy Association

A new topic was posted today by a member on the GuppyLaceLovers site. I can't quote the entire post as it wasn't posted by me but have extracted bits of it here

    Quote
"A new Guppy Organization tentatively entitled the "International United Guppy Club" is taking root at this very moment.

It will be formed from the very cream of the crop, top eschelon of guppy breeders in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand,
Brazil, Germany, England, Russia, and America.

At least one of these countries boasts a breeder with decades' worth of experience who can create or recreate any strain of guppy known to man with the twitch of his nose.  He is the inspiration for this new group........" Unquote

    Re: New Guppy Association

Sorry for the late reply. Just wanted to thank you for the information. It seems in the last few years interest has decreased as regards these fish, though we still see many new and different coloured guppies being imported. However these new strains imported are only male, and no female. The importer wants to keep the strain to himself and i do not blame them. These fish deserve more recognition, as it is a good fish to keep and  breed. Also from experience I have found out that you can keep  it in cold water inside. We have a small fish tank without a heater in our office and we have kept guppies for more than two years now without a heater. They still manage to grow and reproduce.

    Frank,

I think guppies are interesting fish and especially good for children as they are livebearers and children get excited just observing the females dropping fry.

I'm not sure about the lfs in Malta but most breeders in USA, Europe and Asia will sell you both males and females. There are many of them and you can get in touch with them. These strains can be very good quality ones but you have to pay a bit more for these.

Here in Malta you can acquire good quality guppies directly from breeders. By post its a bit difficult for the fish to make it if the journey takes more then two days.

You will not find show guppies in lfs here in Malta, usually they are of different colours or else as Frank said, you'll have a tank full of the same males.

    Re: New Guppy Association

I had guppies shipped from the US, from the breeder to my friend's home in the US. Another friend on vacation in the US picked up the guppies which were properly packed in Kordon bags and housed in a polystyrene box, put this box in his check-in luggage and brought them back to Singapore. Total journey time was 9 days and they all survived. I conditioned all new guppies and also do not feed my guppies for 2 days just after I get them from any source. This is to acclimatise them to the water. Guppies are tough. A top guppy breeder in Singapore told me that they can go without food for 2 weeks. There are many breeders in Europe so the journey shouldn't take too long.

     hi thanks for the info.

I was wondering if maybe you have some clubs which we can contact. I understand that a person has to pay extra but if it means having a new breed i guess it  is worth it.

    Frank,

There isn't any need to get in touch with guppy clubs. It's the world wide breeders that you should get in touch with if you want to buy guppies. Here are two

UK breeders, should be easy to get them since both Malta and UK are in the EU

    Re: New Guppy Association

      HI thanks for the site.

I had a look at them and must admit some of the guppies are really beautiful. However the cost of importing a pair is too expensive for me i must admit. I mean to have to pay around 75 euro for the packing, and than risking finding them dead or maybe not as beautiful as in the photo, is something i am not willing to pay. However once again thanks for the interest and for taking the time to find those sites for me
