That's quite interesting, Martin. It may have it's advantages, as softening the shrimp or else something else & it would be easier for the fry to eat.

I never soak the Decapsulated when feeding Angels & Livebearers & I just feed it directly from the packet.

I only soak the Decapsulated when feeding bottom feeders, so it will "sink" immediatly & not because I read it somewhere. I also used to use this process with the Nishikoi foods that I buy from the club, as some of them keep floating for some time.

Please treat Corydoras as community inhabitants & not as scavengers. Stick out tongue

Thanks for your replies. I will look further into this and experiment my self to see what is the best for the fry. Well I must admit that I surely prefer to hatch the live brine shrimps and feed them alive to the fry.

     Hi

Martin thanks for the explanation. I must admit i never used these decapsualted brine shrimps.  I must try them out on baby live bearers at least. However i remember when i used to breed angelfish, they would only eat live brine shrimps and it had to be moving. I guess seeing them moving around attracts them to eat them. As they grew bigger around a month they would eat dead brine shrimps( hatched ones of course). But this would happen only after i had started feeding them  flakes, and that would be around a month of so.

Ivan maybe your young fish are used to eating live brine shrimps and as such will only eat that for the moment

I have seen your comments. I had never given my fry dead brine shrimps for sure. Would you not be chansing of contaminatin the water and surely kill all the fry ???

Martin to answer your question re dead brine shrimps,  no i never lost any fry that way. The important thing i found is that the fish have made the switch from live brine shrimps to flakes. SO for them it is sinking food. Well if you have a tank full of babies there will be no time for pollution,. I tried it once and kept doing it.

Not wishing to plug my site but I regularly bring decaps to Malta each year for members. Some ask me to post to Malta.

The advantage of decap over live brine shrimp is they have not expended any energy to escape the shell so more nutrition is locked in.

One thing to watch out for is some sites sell decap with a lot of untreated shell which can choke fry. You can see this with the naked eye.

Thanks Tim for the info.  That is why I try to feed newly hatched brine shrimps in order to have the optimum from the shrimp.
